It all began with Afonso Kuenerz, who graduated as an architect in 1978 and soon started designing his own projects. In the early 1980s, he created Afonso Kuenerz Arquitetura e Planejamento Ltda., a company focused on construction and land development projects. The office was established in Barra da Tijuca, in the Southwest Zone of Rio de Janeiro, and grew alongside the real estate expansion in Rio.

 

Our history is intertwined with that of the urban planning legislation of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Starting with the 1988 Constitution and the subsequent City Statute (Law No. 10.257/2001), Rio's urban planning legislation began to focus on the social function of property and participatory planning.

 

Over five decades, the firm has evolved into an integrated structure capable of taking a project from feasibility study to delivery. Today, the entire detailed design process is developed in BIM using Revit, and the firm continues to lead some of the city's largest project launches.

 

Afonso Kuenerz is the vice-president of the Association of Real Estate Market Executives of Rio de Janeiro (ADEMI-RJ) and head of the Urban Planning Legislation Committee. This direct involvement in the development of urban planning regulations provides even greater security to the projects that the firm approves.
